Writing for VEIL

A VEIL file is not required to be horror and is not required to describe a creature. The setting works best when the central question is what does humanity not yet understand, and what does responsible action look like while knowledge is incomplete?

Useful article shapes

Case record: investigation-centered, with changing assessments and operational updates.

Incident report: focuses tightly on one event and the decisions made during it.

External Actor document: written from or about another organization with its own priorities.

Operation report: emphasizes field decisions, failures and consequences.

Research note: explores a technical mechanism without needing a major action sequence.

Narrative: prose fiction inside the shared setting.

Avoiding repetition

Do not make every mystery a reality-bending artifact in a secure room. Use modern infrastructure, social systems, biology, communications, finance, weather, transportation, astronomy and human institutions. Some cases should end with partial answers. Some should become public. Some should prove harmless. A few should turn out not to be Unknowns at all.

The classification values should follow from the story rather than substitute for it.
